Hello again, everyone!
<---See that photo over there?
The left side is a photo from my high school graduation party. I was eighteen and out of shape. I had danced and cheered all my life and had been very trim up until around my sophomore/junior years in high school, when I started to pack on some pounds. I wasn't obese and everyone kept telling me I looked great, but when I looked in the mirror, I was never happy, and my confidence plummeted.
Somewhere around my junior year of college I experienced some extra stress that made me lose weight. I graduated a semester early and started an internship and a part-time temp position while taking grad classes. Quite simply, I didn't have time to eat! I dropped pounds very fast, but it wasn't the healthiest of methods AND I wasn't physically fit...I was "skinny fat."
"Skinny fat" stuck with me for quite some time. I began following Weight Watchers so I could maintain my weight in a healthy manner nutrition-wise, but I still wasn't exercising regularly. I began dancing again with an area indoor football team's dance team, but the workouts weren't regular and the scale yo-yo'd quite a bit.
Once I got married, I began competing in pageants for married women. After four attempts at earning a title, I was finally crowned Mrs. Pennsylvania United States 2011. Women of all ages (up to fifty years old!) competed against me in the national Mrs. United States pageant, and while I was just as thin as them, WOW, were they FIT--toned muscles, few jiggles, and HEALTHY.
I realized through my experience at nationals and my impending thirtieth birthday that I needed to become more physically active on a regular basis in order to develop and KEEP a healthier physique. It hasn't been long since I discovered ZUMBA fitness, but I've sure seen some quick results! My resting heart rate is lower than it was through my teens and twenties, friends and family notice the firming and toning of my muscles (without prompting...lol), and I feel GREAT. I am happier, less stressed, and know each time I go to class I am doing something healthy not only for myself, but most importantly FOR YOU...the students who attend ZUMBA fitness classes and are inspired each day to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
